The restaurant scene here is clearly having a moment, with a growing number of confident, well-executed openings sitting comfortably alongside long-established classics.

As my family is from — and now lives — nearby, I find myself in Kraków at least twice a year, which gives me a good excuse to keep up with new restaurants while regularly returning to old favorites.

Bottiglieria 1881 is Kraków’s only Michelin-starred restaurant and the clear choice if you want to splurge on a standout meal. Located in the Kazimierz district, the restaurant offers two tasting menus, the Introduction and the Full Experience, both built around creative, well-balanced dishes that highlight seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.

The cooking is precise and restrained, allowing flavors to remain clear and focused, with each course finished with a subtle, thoughtful flourish. For a more immersive experience, sit in the century-old cellar, or request a table opposite the open kitchen to watch the team at work.

It is unquestionably a special-occasion restaurant, but one that justifies the expense. If you plan to invest in one high-end dining experience in Kraków, this is the one to choose.

2. Kogel Mogel

Kogel Mogel is one of those places I return to every time I’m in the city, and it never disappoints. On my last visit, I ordered the śledź or pickled herring — a dish I don’t generally love, and it ended up being one of the best versions I’ve ever had: clean, balanced, and beautifully judged.

For mains, the roasted duck with Polish apples was simply melt-in-your-mouth — rich, tender, and perfectly executed. The cooking here is confident, comforting, and deeply satisfying, offering classic Polish dishes reworked with a more creative, elevated touch.

Eating at Kogel Mogel isn’t just recommended, it’s a non-negotiable part of any return to or first time in Kraków.

3. MOLÁM Thai

MOLÁM Thai was a genuine surprise, and easily one of the most authentic Thai meals I’ve had in Poland. The flavors are bold and true to form, without being toned down for local tastes.

The roasted chicken is a must-order — deeply flavorful with crisp skin — and should always be paired with sticky rice. Even better, khao soi, one of my all-time favorite Thai dishes, is on the menu here and done exceptionally well.

If you love Thai food, MOLÁM is, honestly, unmissable. It’s the kind of place you don’t expect to find in Kraków, which makes the experience all the more memorable – easily one of the best restaurants in Krakow.

4. Pod Różą

Pod Różą is one of Kraków’s most historic dining rooms, set inside one of the oldest historical hotels in Kraków, in the center of the Old Town.

The menu focuses on refined Polish and European cuisine, rooted in classical technique and presented with restraint rather than showmanship. You can choose between a tasting menu or à la carte, both of which lean into tradition and careful execution.

The wine list is a standout, featuring more than 300 Italian labels, making this an especially strong choice if you love wine. Elegant without feeling overly formal, Pod Różą is well-suited to a slower, more traditional dining experience.

5. Folga

Folga is a modern, forward-thinking restaurant in Kazimierz that feels firmly rooted in the city’s current dining scene.

Easily one of the best sushi restaurants in Krakow, Hana Sushi is one of my go-to spots in Kraków when I’m craving sushi, and Japanese cuisine.

The quality is consistently high, with beautifully fresh fish and clean, precise preparation that doesn’t try to overcomplicate things. I tend to stick to nigiri and sashimi here, where the simplicity really shows the skill of the kitchen.

It’s calm, understated, and dependable — the kind of place I return to because I know exactly what I’m going to get, and it’s always done well.

8. ZAZIE Bistrot

ZAZIE Bistrot is a relaxed French-leaning bistro that’s easy to return to, especially when you want something casual and well executed. The standout dish here, for me, is the octopus. Last time I was here it was remarkably tender and genuinely unforgettable. The mussels here and also the beef tartare are also outstanding.

The menu balances classic bistro cooking with a light, modern touch, and the atmosphere is casual without feeling careless. Service is also great.

9. Karakter

Easily among the best restaurants in Kraków, Karakter represents the city’s more experimental, chef-driven side. The menu changes regularly and leans into bold combinations and seasonal ingredients, with dishes that feel modern and comforting.

It’s a place for diners who enjoy creativity on the plate and want to see how Kraków’s contemporary food scene is evolving beyond the more traditional spots.

Dishes here you have to try are the 8-hour cooked beef ribs with mash, the duck breast, and the beef tartare, and while the menu does change with the seasons, the focus is always on fresh ingredients and comfort food.

10. Pod Nosem

Pod Nosem is a quietly refined restaurant just steps from the Main Market Square, offering a polished take on Polish and European cuisine. I’ve eaten here several times, and the food has always been consistent and thoughtfully executed.

Standout dishes from past visits include the deer sirloin, the venison goulash, and the zander, all full of flavor.

For something a little different, the pierogi filled with wild boar are particularly memorable — not something you usually see, and a smart twist on a classic dish.

The menu looks to Polish classics for inspiration, reviving and refining them rather than rewriting the rulebook. Some dishes you’ll find here are the house-made kaszanka treated with respect, alongside excellent cuts of meat cooked simply over the grill.

Ósma Rano

The food more than holds its own: the shakshuka is fantastic, rich and well seasoned, and easily one of the best breakfast options in the city. Coffee is solid, but it’s also a great place for matcha, done properly and without shortcuts.

Aura

Tucked inside the bustling Stary Kleparz market, Aura is a tiny coffee roaster that quietly delivers some of the best coffee in Kraków. I always stop by when I’m in the area, partly for the coffee and partly for the atmosphere, with market life unfolding all around you. It’s the kind of place locals rely on, and visitors stumble upon by luck, and once you’ve had a cup here, it quickly becomes a habit.

Tucked away in Kazimierz, Eszeweria is a very cool bar, set inside a slightly ramshackle historic townhouse. With a bohemian, lived-in feel, mismatched furniture, low lighting, and a leafy courtyard its especially appealing in warmer months.

It works equally well for coffee during the day or a relaxed drink in the evening, attracting a mix of locals, artists, and in-the-know visitors. Unpolished in the best possible way, Eszeweria feels authentic, atmospheric, and unmistakably Kazimierz.

HEVRE

Down a side street in Kazimierz, HEVRE is a standout bar that’s become something of a favorite for evenings out. Part cocktail lounge, part late-night spot, it blends moody, intimate interiors with drinks that are thoughtfully composed — a mix of inventive signatures and well-executed classics.

The vibe is stylish and boho-cool, and it draws a crowd that’s here for good drinks and good conversation. It’s a great place to start or finish a night in Kraków’s nightlife circuit. They also do food, but I personally haven’t tried it.

Wino Metal

A relaxed, slightly offbeat wine bar in Kazimierz, Wino Metal is an easy place to drop in and stay longer than planned.

The focus is on well-chosen wines, with an emphasis on natural and lesser-known bottles, alongside simple snacks like cheese and pickles that go perfectly with your wine. The atmosphere is casual, with a crowd that feels local and in-the-know rather than scene-y.

It works well as a low-key starting point for the evening or a final stop when you want one good glass and no fuss.

Alchemia

For a later drink or a longer night out, Alchemia is hard to beat. Set in Kazimierz, the bar is dark and candlelit, with creaking wooden floors, shadowy corners, and an atmosphere that encourages lingering rather than clock-watching.
