The Best Beaches on Procida Island, Italy
Wandering where to throw down a towel on Procida? These are the best beaches in Procida, Italy.
Procida, the smallest and perhaps most understated of the three islands in the Bay of Naples, is home to a handful of beautiful beaches that feel like hidden treasures. Most of Procida’s shores are blanketed in dark, volcanic sand, a reminder of the island’s ancient origins, while others have a sprinkling of pebbles that lend them a rugged charm.
Unlike the polished beaches of Ischia or the glitzy shores of Capri, Procida’s beaches remain delightfully quiet—except, of course, in August, when no coastal escape in Italy is spared from the summer crowds.
Yet, even during peak season, Procida’s authenticity and lack of over-the-top fanfare make its beaches feel special, almost like stepping back in time.
On my visit to Procida, I embraced the island’s slow rhythm for three blissful days. Each morning began with a cafe and a fresh lingua de bue pastry, the sweet custard-filled specialty that Procida is known for.
The days stretched out in an unhurried haze of wandering the pastel-colored streets, eating fresh seafood, and claiming a quiet spot on one of the island’s beaches.
Afternoons were spent alternating between refreshing dips in the sea and long, lazy hours under the Mediterranean sun, with little else to do but take in the serene beauty of this unassuming island gem.
After those slow days spent on Procida, here is my guide to Procida’s best beaches- spots of sand you simply must visit on your trip.
6 Most Beautiful Beaches in Procida, Italy
Chiaia Beach
On the eastern side of Procida, Chiaia Beach is a serene stretch of volcanic sand that feels like a secluded paradise. Reached by descending a series of steps from the main road, the journey down to Chiaia is as much a part of the experience as the beach itself.
Once you arrive, you’re greeted by calm, crystal-clear waters, perfect for swimming or simply floating the afternoon away.
Chiaia offers some pretty incredible postcard-perfect views. To one side, the imposing silhouette of Terra Murata—the island’s historic fortified village—rises dramatically against the sky. On the other, the pastel hues of Marina Corricella spill down the hillside, creating a dreamy backdrop that feels straight out of an Italian romance.
Head here for the day to lounge on the sand and dip your toes in the water, the scene is nothing short of enchanting. It’s the kind of place where time seems to stand still, making it the ideal spot for a slow, tranquil day on Procida, not too far from Marina Corricella.
Ciraccio Beach
Ciraccio Beach is the longest stretch of sand on Procida, eventually merging with Chiaiolella Beach on its southern end. Its defining feature is the pair of towering sea stacks that rise just offshore, remnants of ancient volcanic activity. These rugged formations give the beach a striking, almost dramatic character, providing a natural contrast to the gentle lapping of the waves.
The beach itself is a mix of dark volcanic sand and small pebbles, with plenty of room to find your own quiet spot, especially outside peak summer months – in October we had all the space in the world.
The shallow waters make it a great option for swimming or simply cooling off from the Mediterranean sun. Ciraccio feels unpretentious and refreshingly untamed, ideal for those who prefer a more natural setting without the frills.
The wide, expansive views of the sea and the occasional fisherman’s boat drifting past make it a place where you can truly disconnect and enjoy Procida’s raw coastal beauty.
Pozzo Vecchio or ‘Il Postino Beach’
Pozzo Vecchio Beach, better known as Il Postino Beach thanks to its appearance in the 1994 film Il Postino, is one of Procida’s most iconic and atmospheric spots. This must have been my favorite beach in Procida.
Tucked into a small cove on the western side of the island, this beach is a quiet, unassuming stretch of dark volcanic sand that holds both cinematic and natural charm.
Framed by steep, craggy cliffs and dotted with colorful fishing boats moored just offshore, Pozzo Vecchio feels wonderfully secluded, particularly in the off-season. It’s easy to see why it was chosen as a film location—the beach has an understated beauty, with its wild edges and tranquil setting perfectly capturing Procida’s essence.
The sunsets here are particularly stunning, as the fading light casts golden hues over the water and cliffs. If you’re seeking a beach with character and a sense of history, Pozzo Vecchio offers a peaceful escape with a touch of cinematic nostalgia.
Chiaiolella Beach
Chiaiolella Beach, located on the southwestern edge of Procida, is a lively yet laid-back spot that offers fantastic views across the bay. Unlike some of the island’s sandier beaches, Chiaiolella is predominantly pebbly, which adds a rugged charm to its shoreline.
Despite the terrain, it’s a favorite among locals, thanks to its vibrant atmosphere and striking panoramas of Procida’s hills and colorful houses. It’s also a short walk away from Marina Chiaiolella.
This beach is a great choice for swimming, with clear azure waters that beckon you in, and plenty of opportunities for people-watching as boats drift in and out of the nearby marina. The views are particularly impressive, especially as you glance out toward Vivara Island and take in its layered beauty.
Chiaiolella is also surrounded by a range of cafes and restaurants – don’t sleep on a lazy dinner at Ristorante Da Mariano-, making it easy to transition from a beach day to an evening of fresh seafood and wine. It’s a perfect spot to soak in Procida’s coastal charm without straying far from amenities.
Silurenza Beach
Silurenza Beach, located near Procida’s main port, is one of the most convenient spots for a quick dip upon arrival or before departure. Its small, sandy shoreline and shallow waters make it a popular choice for families or anyone looking for a quiet, accessible beach experience.
While it lacks the dramatic scenery of some of Procida’s more secluded spots, its proximity to the marina and the pastel-colored houses nearby gives it a certain charm.
Perfect for a relaxed hour or two, Silurenza offers a simple, no-frills introduction to Procida’s coastal allure.
La Lingua Beach
La Lingua Beach is a small, tranquil strip of sand and pebbles located near Marina Corricella, offering a quiet escape with a stunning view. This beach is perfect for those seeking a low-key spot to unwind while taking in the picturesque backdrop of fishing boats and pastel-hued buildings cascading down the hillside.
The waters here are calm and inviting, ideal for a refreshing swim or simply relaxing on the pebbly shoreline. La Lingua’s charm lies in its simplicity—just the essentials of sea, sun, and an unbeatable view of Procida’s iconic scenery. Rentals are offered in season at the small bar on the beach.
