What is Avocado Toast?
Avocado toast in its simplest form is avocado on a piece of toasted, sliced bread.
You can smash the avocado and place it on toast or you can slice it. With this vegan avocado toast recipe, there really aren’t any rules.
You can eat just the simple basic version or add some topping for extra flavour, texture and color.
Why Make and Eat Avocado Toast?
Because it’s delicious!
Seriously though, not only is it one of the simplest meals or snacks to make, but it’s also healthy.
Avocados are full of healthy fats (monounsaturated), fibre, as well as magnesium, potassium and Vitamins C, E and K. Further nutrition, is also provided depending on the bread and additional toppings you choose to use.

How to Make Avocado Toast?
There really isn’t much to it. Take your favourite bread and toast it. While the bread is toasting half the avocados, take out the pit, scoop out the flesh into a bowl and mash it with a fork.
Alternatively, you can slice the avocado if you prefer.
Once the bread has been toasted top it with the avocado and add your desired toppings, salt, pepper, cilantro, tomato, etc.
My Favourite Vegan Avocado Toast Recipe
I love avocado toast, so much. I try not to eat it as often as I’d like because well, avocados do have a huge impact on the environment.
I love sourdough bread and I think it pairs so well with the creamy texture and slight sweetness of the avocado, so most of the time I use a thick slice of sourdough bread for my vegan avocado toast recipe.
Next, I prefer smashed avo on toast rather than sliced. As I mash the avocado sometimes I add a teaspoon lemon juice.
And finally my favourite avocado toast topping? Everything bagel seasoning and red pepper flakes.
I love the combination of sweet, salty and spicy. Everything seasoning plus chilli flakes add the perfect amount of saltiness and spiciness to the creamy avocado and the crunchy sourdough toast.
It really is the perfect combination.

Important things to Remember:
As this recipe is so simple, the quality of ingredients really matters. Try to source the best kind of bread you can find according to your preference whether that’s sourdough, gluten-free, whole wheat, Ezekiel etc.
You’ll also need good, perfectly ripe avocados. For that creamy texture, make sure not to use unripe or barely ripe avocados as they will be hard to mash and won’t taste great either. They should be firm still but should give easily when pressed.
If you don’t manage to use all the avocadoes, you can store them in the fridge if they are already ripe.
If you’re already cut into, the best way to store leftover avocado is in a sealed container with the pit still intact. When you’re ready to use it again, just cut off any brown bits that have discolored through oxidation.
The Ultimate Vegan Avocado Toast Recipe:
This is my go-to vegan avocado toast recipe, with only a few ingredients to avo toast heaven. It’s so easy yet so healthy and nutritious.
Notes: You can use two small slices of bread instead of one large one. This really depends on the type of bread you’re using. Just make sure to have enough for a serving.
Everything Bagel seasoning has quite a bit of salt in it, so if you’re using it don’t add any extra salt to the avocado otherwise it will be too salty.
