What Wellness to Seek Out in Tulum
Yoga
Tulum really is heaven for yoga lovers with so many amazing yoga teachers from around the world and yoga studios at your fingertips right on the Riviera Maya.
There are so many different classes to choose from, from Hatha to Aerial yoga (I was personally offered three more types of yoga over just Vinyasa flow in a private session) and you get to do it in such a beautiful location which is truly priceless.
Most yoga studios are set in the jungle or right on the beach where you’re surrounded by nature and wildlife that encourage the connection between body, mind and earth. It’s the perfect destination if you really want to enhance or change up your yoga practice.
For those interested in a longer stay, there are also many different yoga retreats to participate in- many of them considered as some of the best yoga and wellness retreats in Tulum and the world.
Cacao Ceremony
For the ancient Mayans, cacao was sacred and used as a nourishing medicine for the soul, while also uplifting and detoxifying the body.
In recent years, cacao ceremonies have become more and more popular in Tulum as a way to boost immune and cardiovascular health (by drinking ceremonial cacao) and also to cleanse and heal the body and expand energy.
You won’t find it in many places around the world so it’s definitely a unique experience to try when in Tulum.
Temazcal Ceremony
Originating from the local Mayan culture, Temazcal is a guided ceremony where local healers guide you through a series of meditations, music and chanting in order to cleanse the mind and the body. The idea is to open your heart and let go of stress and worries while creating space for the balance of your mind and emotions for inner peace.
Sound Healing
Many of the best yoga studios in Tulum also offer sound healing. Sound healing is a journey to inner peace which includes meditation and listening to the sounds created by ancient ancestral instruments. The healer will guide you through meditation and a profound acoustic experience from around the world.
Top Spots for Wellness and the Best Yoga in Tulum
1. Holistika Tulum
Located on the edge of Tulum town, surrounded by verdant jungle, Holistika Tulum is the best wellness and yoga retreat center you’ll find in Tulum away from the beach.
Holistika offer a wide range of wellness activities to choose from such as round-the-clock specialist yoga classes (you can see their weekly schedules published at the entrance and online here), cacao and temazcal ceremonies and sound therapy workshops. They practice mainly hatha, vinyasa and kundalini yoga at Holistika.
They also have an onsite boutique hotel with a stunning pool area and one of the best vegan restaurants in Tulum, Tierra, and they also offer a number of different yearly conscious retreats that they host. It really is a remarkable place.
If yoga, Mexican wellness, cultural and spiritual activities are your thing then simply don’t miss this incredibly calming (and gorgeous) space.

The Alaya beachside property belongs to the Ahau Collection and their vibe is all about wellbeing and relaxation.
If you’re still thinking about where to stay in Tulum and you’d like to stay right on the beach, this is one of the best options.
Alaya’s focus is on holistic health and they help their guests to achieve this through morning and evening yoga classes, healthy and nutrient-rich meals, integral workshops classes and retreats throughout the year.
The good news is that this isn’t offered for just guests. Non-guests can join the popular twice-daily yoga classes that happen in their beautiful, open-air yoga barn overlooking the jungle and you can also spend the day at their beach club. Workshops retreats and classes are also available for non-guests.
Check their official website here for more details.

3. Ahau Tulum
A yoga and wellness-focused hotel, Ahau is a lovely space to come and practise yoga in and enjoy the surroundings afterwards- including Raw Love, one of Tulum’s best vegan cafes.
With a wide range of daily yoga classes and ceremonies, morning and evening, it’s so easy to just turn up and flow. Their open-air yoga studio right on the beach allows you to breathe to the sound of the waves lapping at the shore.
Ahau also does sound healing and cacao ceremonies, vinyasa and aerial yoga.

They specialise in yoga, meditation, temazcal ceremonies on every new and full moon as well as a range of spa treatments like massages and facials and access to their healing thermal pools. The space itself in the middle of the jungle is superb- rustic and raw with all the Tulum boho vibes you might expect.
Yoga classes vary between Hatha and Vinyasa flow and are held in a gorgeous studio in the jungle canopy- hearing the jungle awaking at sunrise while flowing is quite the experience. They also have meditation classes that follow Himalayan Buddhist practises.

6. Amansala
Amansala is probably my favorite place in Tulum for the best yoga classes in Tulum. It’s one of the original yoga retreat centers on Tulum Beach.
Amansala is all about a way of life and a stay here is inclusive of all that contribute to health; healthy food, a calm and stress-free mental state, and movement.
Their beachfront yoga studio is one of the best in Tulum offering ocean views as you flow and the property does daily yoga classes which non-guests can join too- just call ahead to sign up.

7. Azulik
The Azulik space is one of the most unique spaces in the world and the same goes for its yoga studio and spa.
Azulik offers daily yoga classes at 8 am in their iconic dome that allows you to unite body and mind in your practice in a truly sacred space. Yoga classes are free for guests but open for all- just buy your tickets online here.
They also offer Sound Healing sessions, Temazcal and Energy Purification sessions.
Offering both a Maya spa, in which treatments are based on ancient Mayan practises in order to cleanse and rejuvenate and a Beauty Sanctuary, it really is an otherworldly place to experience yoga and wellness.
Check their official website here for more details. I personally wouldn’t stay at Azulik as it’s way too overpriced and overhyped. There are far better properties close by right on Tulum Beach.
8. Shambala Petit Hotel
Shambala specialises in accommodation and Tulum yoga retreats right on the beautiful beach.
