The Best Restaurants in Folegandros
From beachfront seafood tavernas to hidden local gems in Chora, these are the best restaurants in Folegandros worth planning your stay around.
Like much of the Cyclades, Folegandros revolves around long lunches, late dinners, and simple food made with exceptional ingredients. Alongside traditional tavernas serving recipes that have been passed down through generations, you’ll find seafood restaurants overlooking turquoise bays, family-run wineries offering memorable dinners al fresco, and a handful of contemporary spots bringing fresh energy to the island’s dining landscape.
When searching for where to eat in Folegandros, you’ll soon find that the emphasis here is firmly on local ingredients, freshly caught fish, and warm hospitality. Long lunches often spill into the afternoon, while dinners stretch late into the evening beneath the whitewashed lanes of Chora.
After spending four long days on the island recently (and plenty of research), these are my picks for the best restaurants in Folegandros, from beachfront tavernas and hidden local favourites to special-occasion dinners worth planning your evening around.

12 Best Restaurants in Folegandros
1. Irini’s Tavern & Grocery Store
Part taverna, part village grocery store, Irini’s just happened to be one of the best meals I had in Folegandros. Sitting right on the thoroughfare that traverses the island, it’s the perfect lunch spot when exploring Folegandros.
The menu leans heavily on whatever is freshest that day. Order local lamb or rooster, matsana, imam, local cheeses, and simple Greek salads piled high with fresh tomatoes that actually taste of something. A cold glass of house wine and a table facing the action is all you need here. Simple but so tasty, this is a local Folegandros home cooking at its finest.

2. To Barbounaki
For seafood, To Barbounaki is one of the best dinner reservations in Chora. This family-run Greek-Polish restaurant occupies a charming spot among the village’s whitewashed lanes and has built a reputation for some of the freshest fish on the island.
Come in the evening, grab a table outside, and settle into the laid-back atmosphere as the village slowly fills with diners taking their evening stroll.
The grilled fish is exceptional. Depending on the day’s catch, you might find sea bream, red mullet or sea bass cooked simply over charcoal and finished with little more than olive oil and lemon.
I’d recommend ordering a few sides to share too. The fried potatoes, grilled vegetables, and Greek salads are every bit as good as the main event. Add a bottle of chilled Assyrtiko, and you have all the ingredients for a long, leisurely dinner in one of Folegandros’ most welcoming restaurants.

3. O Psaromiligkas
For lunch on Agkali Beach, O Psaromiligkas is one of the best options. Sitting right above the sand, it has the easygoing atmosphere you want after a morning of swimming, with shaded tables, salty air and a steady stream of locals and returning visitors dropping in throughout the afternoon.
The menu focuses on fresh seafood and simple Greek cooking done exceptionally well. Order grilled fish if it’s available, alongside fried calamari, local cheeses and a few vegetable dishes for the table.
You can arrive straight from the beach, settle in with a cold beer or glass of wine, and watch the pace of the day slow right down. On an island full of memorable meals, this remains one of the best lunch spots in Folegandros.
4. Papalagi Seafood
Continue along the bay from Agkali and you’ll eventually arrive at Paralia Agios Nikolaos, home to Papalagi Seafood, one of the most idyllic lunch spots on the island. Perched just steps from the water, it’s the ideal spot for an effortless lunch post-swim, helped along by the sea views and the gentle rhythm of beachgoers drifting in and out.
Seafood is the focus here, with grilled fish, octopus and daily specials depending on what the boats have brought in that morning. The cooking is simple and unfussy, allowing the freshness of the ingredients to do the work. I’d recommend ordering a few dishes to share and settling in with a cold glass of white wine while looking out across the bay.
One thing to note: Papalagi typically operates during the height of the summer season and may not be open in May or during the quieter shoulder months. It’s worth checking ahead before making the walk or boat trip over, particularly if you’re visiting outside July and August.
5. Chic Restaurant
Right in the heart of Chora’s main square, Chic Restaurant is one of the best spots on the island for a relaxed evening meal and a front-row seat to village life. Tables spill out onto the square, making it an excellent place to settle in with a glass of wine and watch the nightly parade of locals and visitors pass by.
The menu blends traditional Greek flavours with more contemporary Mediterranean influences, offering a welcome change from the seafood-heavy tavernas elsewhere on the island. Expect beautifully presented salads, grilled meats, fresh fish and seasonal dishes that make the most of Cycladic ingredients.
6. Paliomilos Winery
If you’re looking for something beyond the traditional tavernas, Paliomilos Winery delivered one of the best meals I had on Folegandros. Set on the edge of the Chora, it’s worth making an evening of it. Arrive before dinner and book a wine tasting to sample the estate’s wines while learning a little about Folegandros’ small but growing wine scene.
The food is every bit as memorable as the wine. The beef cooked in red wine sauce and the kleftiko lamb were both standouts. The setting adds to the experience, with a lovely interior courtyard, warm hospitality and live music in the summer months. For a more special meal on the island, this is one I wouldn’t miss.

7. To Goupi
A low-key taverna in Chora that serves fresh, traditional Greek food in a relaxed setting that feels genuinely local. The focus here is firmly on the cooking rather than the setting (even though that’s lovely too), and all the better for it.
The menu centres on classic island dishes made with seasonal ingredients, daily specials and produce sourced locally whenever possible. Expect slow-cooked meats, fresh salads, local cheeses and simple vegetable dishes that let the ingredients shine. Nothing here is complicated, but everything is very well executed.
8. O Kritikos Grill House
For something quick, affordable and reliably good, O Kritikos Grill House is hard to beat. Located in Chora, this casual spot is a favourite for souvlaki, gyros and other Greek grill-house staples, making it an ideal choice when you want a break from long lunches and leisurely dinners.
The grilled meats are the main attraction, served wrapped in warm pita or plated alongside crispy fries and salads. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable and service is fast, even during the busiest weeks of summer.
9. Pasithea Restaurant
For lunch with a view, Pasithea Restaurant has one of the best settings in Agkali. Perched above the bay, the restaurant looks out across the water and surrounding cliffs, making it one of the most scenic places to eat on the island.
The sunsets here are particularly beautiful if you make it over for dinner, bathing the entire coastline in golden light as boats drift across the bay.
The menu features a wide range of Greek dishes, with fresh seafood, dips, grilled meats and seasonal specials taking centre stage. While the food is excellent, it’s the setting that really steals the show.
I’d recommend arriving early to snag one of the coveted tables right on the edge of the terrace. With uninterrupted sea views and a glass of chilled wine in hand, it’s an easy place to spend a good few lunch hours.

10. Η Παρδάλω
Hidden beneath a cluster of umbrellas between the road and the sea near Karavostasis port, Η Παρδάλω is the sort of place you’d walk straight past if you didn’t know it was there. Finding it is part of the charm. Once you do, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most authentic lunches on the island, served just a few metres from the water.
There’s no menu here. Instead, you’ll be told about whatever has been cooked fresh that day, from slow-cooked stews and vegetable dishes to local seafood and traditional island specialities. I’d recommend ordering a few plates for the table and sharing everything.
With the sea directly in front of you and ferries coming and going in the distance, it’s a wonderfully relaxed spot to ease into island life after arriving or squeeze in one last memorable meal before departure.

11. To Zimaraki
If you’ve had your fill of grilled fish and Greek salads, To Zimaraki is a welcome change of pace. This charming Italian restaurant in Chora serves some of the best Italian food on Folegandros, offering a menu that goes beyond the usual taverna staples while still maintaining the island’s relaxed atmosphere.
Fresh pasta, risottos, and classic Italian dishes form the backbone of the menu, all prepared with care and good-quality ingredients. Pair your meal with a bottle of Italian wine and settle in for a long dinner among the whitewashed lanes of Chora.
12. Taverna Agios Nikolaos
Set directly on Agios Nikolaos Beach, Taverna Agios Nikolaos is one of the most scenic lunch spots on Folegandros. Reached by boat or via the coastal path from Agkali, it offers shaded tables just steps from the sand and beautiful views across the bay.
The menu focuses on traditional Greek favorites, including fresh seafood, grilled meats, and daily specials. With the sea only metres away, it’s an easy place to spend an entire afternoon without needing to walk back to Agkali for something to eat.
Best Cafes, Bars, Bakeries
While Folegandros is best known for its tavernas, the island also has a handful of excellent cafés, bars, and bakeries worth seeking out.
Whether you’re after a morning coffee, a sunset cocktail or a freshly baked pastry before a day at the beach, these are the spots I found myself returning to throughout my stay.
Pounta – One of the island’s most popular cafés and breakfast spots, perfect for a morning coffee and something sweet before exploring Chora. Grab a table outside and watch village life slowly come to life around you.
ParasAgas – A traditional bakery/ice cream spot that’s ideal for stocking up on fresh pastries, ice cream, and cakes. I particularly liked stopping by for a post-dinner sweet treat.
Beez Cocktail Bar – A lively evening spot serving creative cocktails in the heart of Chora. It’s a great place to start the night before dinner or settle in for a few drinks afterwards.
Aquarius – My favourite spot for an evening drink on the island. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between local hangout and visitor favourite, creating a convivial mix of residents and travellers that feels genuinely welcoming.
Youpi Folegandros – A charming shop specialising in homemade local products, from preserves and honey to other island-made treats. It’s one of the best places to pick up edible souvenirs and support local producers.
KYKΛOS – Best known for its refreshing watermelon cocktails, this laid-back bar is a brilliant place to cool down on a warm summer evening. Order the signature drink and settle in for sunset.
