Is Mallorca Worth Visiting?
You might be considering a trip to this beautiful island but arenโt quite sure if itโs worth it. Of course, whether itโs worth it does depend on your travel preferences and interests, but personally, Iโd say, yes, itโs definitely worth it.
Mallorcaโs main highlights are its stunning beaches, turquoise water, charming villages, and historic towns as well as the UNESCO World Heritage Tramuntana Mountain Range. The mountains are a haven for hikers, walkers, and road-trippers who love narrow, winding roads.
Mallorca is also the perfect slow travel, wellness, and luxury travel destination. There are plenty of exquisite wellness retreats, hello Es Racรณ dโArtร , luxury boutique hotels, and charming towns that feel like time just stood still. Palma also makes the perfect weekend destination and one of the best places for decor and design.
If youโre a lover of any of the above then Iโd say Mallorca is definitely for you. Just make sure to visit at the right time otherwise it could make or break your trip.
When is the Best Time to Visit Mallorca?
The best time to visit Mallorca is during the shoulder season. The months of May, June (beginning), September (end), and October mean that youโve got the perfect balance of weather and fewer crowds. During this time, the summer crowds havenโt yet arrived or have already gone yet the weather tends to still be sunny and warm.
Spring (End of April, May, and beginning of June)
Spring is a great time to visit Mallorca, with warm, pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. The Majorca season starts in April and the Balearic island is sunny and warm, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 27 degrees Celsius.
This makes it an especially great time for outdoor activities so if youโre planning to do some hiking, make sure to visit in spring or autumn.
Make sure to note, however, that if you are visiting Mallorca for the beaches, donโt time your visit too early as it might not be โbeach weatherโ yet. While some years May can be very warm, in others it could be much cooler. If youโre planning a beach trip aiming for June or September might be a better bet.
Autumn (End of September, October, and beginning of November)
Autumn or fall, is another wonderful time to visit Mallorca. The crowds have gone and warm temperatures remain. I actually visited Mallorca in October and it was still hot and the water temperatures wereย still warm enough to be able to go for a swim.
Prices also decrease in the fall so youโll be much luckier when trying to find cheaper flights and hotel deals.
One of the highlights of visiting Mallorca in the fall is the grape harvest season, which typically runs from August to October. This is a great time to explore the islandโs vineyards and sample some of the delicious local wines.

When is the Worst Time to Visit Mallorca?
Even though Mallorca is a wonderful destination, there are certain times of the year that you may want to avoid. Some of these might be more essential for you than others but they will help you choose the right time of year for your perfect trip.
July & August for Summer Crowds
Summer is undoubtedly the most popular time to visit Mallorca, with thousands of tourists flocking to the islandโs beaches and towns. While this does create a lively atmosphere, it also means long lines, crowded streets, and higher prices for accommodation and activities.
In recent years Mallorca has become a very popular European escape and will continue to do so over the next few years. That means that July and August will become busier and busier.
If you donโt like crowds, itโs best to avoid visiting Mallorca during July and August.
December- February for Winter
Winter is the quietest time on the island and that means many closures of tourist attractions and restaurants, especially in beach towns and places outside Palma.
While this can be a peaceful and budget-friendly time to visit, itโs important to note that not everything will be open. If youโre looking to experience the islandโs nightlife or attend cultural events, you may want to avoid visiting during the winter.
The only exception to this is a winter city break to Palma. As Palma is still a working, functioning city where locals live youโll still be able to find its old town, attractions, restaurants, and stores to be open.
They will be working with reduced hours but a city trip might still be worth it, especially if youโre looking for a little sun.
Winter is the best time to visit Palma de Mallorca for those that want a little winter sun and to visit Mallorca on a budget.
Also note that during Christmas and New Year, crowds increase and so do prices. Make sure to always book ahead when traveling during Christmas and New Year.
November-March for More Rain
While Mallorca is generally sunny and warm, the island does experience some rainy weather from November to March. While the rain usually doesnโt last too long, it can put a damper on outdoor activities.
It doesnโt seem to rain too much on the coast but itโs a different story in the Tramuntana mountains.
If youโre looking to spend a lot of time hiking, itโs best to avoid visiting during the rainy season.

When is the Least Crowded Time to Visit Mallorca?
The least crowded time to visit Mallorca is November to April, with the exception of the two-week period of Christmas and New Year and also Easter. This is the Mallorca low season where youโll find the least amount of tourists on the island. It can also be a great time to visit if youโre looking for a peaceful, budget-friendly vacation.
The island takes on a different character during the off-season. You can enjoy cozy evenings by the fireplace, really make the most of your hotel, explore the islandโs museums and art galleries, and enjoy the Palma restaurants.
Unfortunately, the least crowded time doesnโt coincide with the beach holiday season. For those looking to make the most of Mallorcaโs beaches and get the most from the weather too, the shoulder season months of May and September are the best.

When is the Hottest Time to Visit Mallorca?
Mallorcaโs summer months are the hottest time to visit the island. It can get pretty steamy on the island during the summer months.
I have friends who have been to Mallorca a few times in July and August, and it can get super hot! The temperatures can soar into the mid to high 30s (Celsius), which can make it uncomfortable to do outdoor activities during the peak hours of the day.
However, if youโre willing to adjust your schedule and take it easy during the hottest parts of the day, you can still have a great time on the island.
If youโre visiting during the summer months, make sure to start early, hit the beach in the early morning or late afternoon, and book a hotel with a pool. If youโre in Palma itโs also an idea to spend the hottest time of the day visiting stores and indoor attractions and museums.

Best Times to Visit Mallorca for Festivals
Mallorca has some really vibrant and fun cultural events and festivals that happen throughout the year. If youโre someone who likes to learn more about local culture and get involved, you might want to time your visit for one of Mallorcaโs major festivals.
Here are some of the main festivals to look out for:
Festa de Sant Antoni (January): This festival, held on January 17th, is a celebration of Saint Anthony, the patron saint of animals. You can expect to see bonfires, parades, and traditional Mallorcan dances.
Festival of the Almond Blossom (February): This festival, held in the town of Son Servera, celebrates the blooming of the almond trees with parades, music, and dancing.
Carnival (February/March): Mallorcaโs Carnival celebrations are a lively affair, with parades, parties, and costumes. The biggest Carnival celebrations take place in the city of Palma. This makes it an ideal time to schedule your weekend trip to Palma but make sure to book everything in advance!
Easter (March/April): Easter is an important holiday in Spain, and Mallorca celebrates with processions, music, and traditional foods. Easter is another busy time to visit Mallorca so make sure to book ahead and expect a few crowds.
Nit de Foc (June): Translating to โNight of Fire,โ this festival involves fireworks displays all across the island on the eve of Sant Joan, June 23rd.
Sant Jaume (July): This festival, held in the town of Alcudia, celebrates the islandโs patron saint with parades, music, and traditional dances.
Fira de Sineu (April-October): This weekly market in the town of Sineu is a great place to sample local foods and crafts. The market takes place every Wednesday.
Chopin Piano Festival (August): Piano recitals, artistic installations, exhibitions, and performances in the charming village of Valldemossa, Mallorca where Federick Chopin spent a season.
Fiesta de la Mare de Dรฉu de la Salut (September): Held in the town of Pollenรงa, this festival is a celebration of the Virgin Mary and includes parades, music, and traditional dances.
Christmas Markets (December): In the lead-up to Christmas, youโll find markets selling crafts, foods, and holiday decorations all across the island.
There are many other small cultural events and festivals held all over the island throughout the year. For exactly whatโs on during your travel dates you can check Spainโs tourism board website.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions I get on social media about Mallorca and they should help you plan your ideal trip:
Should you travel to Mallorca in Winter?
Yes, but only for a city break in Palma. Much of the island and the coastal areas shut down in the winter and youโll be very restricted with the choice of hotels and restaurants.
As Palma is a local city youโll still be able to find much of what you need open. Most of the major attractions are open (although operating during limited hours), and the restaurants, bars, and shops are mostly open. The is no reason you canโt enjoy a weekend in Palma in the winter but youโll probably want to bring a jacket.
When is the cheapest time to travel to Mallorca?
The cheapest time to visit Mallorca is in the off-season however the winter might not be the most appealing time either. For the best balance between price, crowds, and weather April, May and October are some of the cheapest and best months to visit.
When is the most expensive time to travel to Mallorca?
The summer months of July and August are the most expensive. Hotel prices skyrocket and so do flights and ferries to the Balearic islands. Car rental prices are also at their highest.
If youโre traveling on a budget try to visit outside the summer months when youโre more likely to find better travel deals.
How many days do you need in Mallorca?
To make the most of the whole island Iโd recommend between 7-10 days. 5 days is a good enough time for one or two parts of the island. If youโre planning to just stay in Palma then 2 days is a good amount of time or 3 days to really take things slow.

Do you need a Car for Mallorca?
If youโre planning a trip to only Palma and perhaps only the charming town of Soller, then so you will not need a car.
For those planning to visit the beaches, Tramuntana mountains, and lovely towns like Valldemossa, Deia, and Pollenรงa, itโs highly recommended to rent a car.
For the best rates on car rental in Mallorca, make sure to check Discover Cars, which always seems to have the best deals. Click here to check car rental prices with Discover Cars.
How is Mallorca in June?
June is a great time to visit Mallorca, especially at the beginning of the month. Itโs still not too crowded, the weather is warm and sunny, possibly even hot and itโs not as expensive as July and August.
Is October a Good time to go to Majorca?
I visited in October and it was warm sunny and a really lovely time. It was still a little crowded so I canโt imagine what August is like but it was still very enjoyable. The weather was great apart from a couple of cloudy and semi-rainy days in the mountains.
