The Only Portable Exercise Equipment You’ll Need (for Travel)

(Last Updated On: February 3, 2021)

Maintaining a workout routine while travelling can be hard. With multiple distractions and excitement, busy schedules (yes, even while travelling) and even jetlag, working out maybe something we just let slide. The good news is that with the correct planning and equipment, working out while travelling is something we no longer have to find excuses for. If you won’t have access to a gym away from home or you’re travelling on a budget consider investing in some portable exercise equipment. Keep reading for a round-up of my must-have travel workout equipment and get ready to step up your fitness game on the road.

TRX

If you’re a fan of suspension training, you’ll probably have already seen or used the lightweight and ever-so-portable TRX. A workout using the TRX is an effective total body workout that utilises just your own bodyweight to work next to all of the body’s major muscles. It helps to get the heart beating and build muscle. All you’ll need is the lightweight TRX and a beam or tree branch to hang it from.

RESISTANCE BANDS

Resistance bands are one of the best tools available when it comes to travel workouts. With the right set of bands, you can create enough resistance and tension to put your body through an effective daily workout that will condition and even build muscle. There are so many different exercises you can do with resistance bands for both upper and lower body. They can fold down incredibly small and weigh next to nothing. If you’re really pushed for space in your luggage then this portable exercise equipment is for you.

Shop my favourite resistance bands on Amazon here.

YOGA MAT

OK, so they might not be the smallest things in the world to travel with, but they can neatly roll up and sit clipped to the outside of your backpack or duffel bag. Yoga mats are so versatile and not just for yoga. Yes, you’ll be able to wake up to the sound of the ocean, unroll your mat and be able to flow whenever and wherever, however, yoga mats are also great for core exercises, pilates, meditation and stretching.

Check out this super-thin, easy-folding and anti-slip yoga mat perfect for travel.

JUMP ROPE

If its a bit of extra cardio that you’re after while travelling, this Sonic Boom M2 High-Speed jump rope is the perfect portable exercise equipment. Jumping rope is the ideal way to get the heart rate going on the spot. While just jumping rope may not provide you with the workout you need, you can combine it with a TRX or resistance band workout to add that final element of daily cardio. Most also fold down so small you won’t even notice it in your luggage.

GARMIN SMARTWATCH

For the adventure/fitness traveller, a Garmin Smartwatch is the essential accessory to keep track of your workouts and performance. Be it running, swimming, cycling or walking, the Garmin Smartwatch will keep track of your heart rate, pulse, steps and many other wellness stats to help motivate you to get moving during your trip. The watch can also help you plan your workouts and even includes settings for tracking yoga and pilates.
