Confidence is based on trust and reliance. It’s a feeling or state, a faith in something. Self-confidence in that case is having trust or faith in yourself which comes from one’s belief in their own abilities and worth.
Confidence isn’t something tangible neither is it static. Our confidence levels are always fluctuating day in day out and it may also depend on the situations we face each day. You may feel very confident in your particular abilities when focused on one task yet not confident at all when faced with another in a completely new situation.
Your self-confidence has much to do with your upbringing and the people you grew up next to and surrounded yourself with. The lessons we learned helped to shape what we believe to be true about our abilities and qualities. Our confidence also comes from how we have been shown and learned to react when confronting different situations.

Make a list of what might be stopping you from going out there and achieving what you want to and the emotions that might be pushing your self-perception down. Write them down and try to make goals towards combating them.
- Learning. It’s through learning and growth that we become more self-confident. Learn from other personal development gurus, speakers and coaches that can help you with your personal growth and confidence but don’t stop there. Your self-confidence can actually improve as a result of learning an entirely new skill such as marketing, cooking or even carpentry. Knowledge is the best way to start improving confidence and will naturally help you to become a more confident person.
- Surround yourself with positive people that encourage you. The company you keep says a lot about you but they also have a huge effect on how you behave and what you think.
