The new year is here and it’s a time where we look back at the last year, at our successes and failures and look to the future and how to make the next year the best one yet.
January is a great time to think about your goals for the next year, both big and small and think what it is you’d like to have achieved by this time next year. Your plans don’t have to be huge like setting up your own business or having such amount in your bank account. This can be really daunting! Small goals, count too, towards making you healthier, happier and living your best life.
New Year. New Beginnings. Who are you going to be and what will you achieve in 2019? Here are 5 actionable resolutions that you can incorporate into you life now to start feeling great.
Move. EVERY SINGLE DAY.
There is no doubt that movement is great for the body and the mind. Exercise has a way of making us feel alive, focused and refreshed. Now is a great time to start out that new fitness routine you’ve been planning or why not finally get that gym membership? Workouts don’t have to be a gruelling sweat session at 5 am. Why not try walking or cycling more or perhaps taking up yoga or climbing? It all counts. This year I’ll be posting a number of my easy to follow, no equipment workouts you can do from anywhere. Watch this space and sweat with me!
Increase your productivity
The older I get, the faster the years seem to pass and that’s also true for days. How often do you find yourself thinking, ‘Where did my day go?’ Try to plan your days thoroughly to be as constructive as possible and in-line with your goals. Be conscious about the time you spend browsing social media, watching TV or just staring into space. All the lost time can add up.
Get one hour more sleep a night.
Recent studies now show the damaging effects of little sleep on our long-term health, which is quite mind-blowing. Longer sleep patterns are now linked to a longer and healthier life. A great goal for 2019 is to try getting one more hour every night. This can be done by getting to bed earlier, something that’s not that difficult after being a little stricter about disconnecting yourself from technology. You’ll notice the benefits in the short term as well as the long term.
Drink more water.
We should all be aiming to drink at least 2 litres of water daily. This is a great goal for 2019. Our bodies are primarily made from water and being well hydrated can help to keep your mind focused, your skin looking clearer and younger and your physical performance on point. I feel myself starting to lag when I don’t drink enough water, especially when I’m travelling in hotter climates and exercising daily. Have a large water bottle handy such as this one (my fav) and take a few sips every few minutes.
You only get one stab at life and trying to live it to the fullest is paramount. In 2018 I learned that most problems have a way of fixing themselves and I don’t need to spend that much time worrying and stressing about the smallest of issues. By worrying less and laughing more we can squeeze moments of joy into every single day and anyway, a smile looks good on anyone.
Whatever your New Year’s resolutions for 2019, I wish you a year full of happiness, health, sweat and good food. Make this your best year yet.
